Her Voice Belongs on the Page.
Young Author Lab helps girls develop confidence in their voices through writing, storytelling, imagination, and creative expression.
Girls learn that writing is more than a school assignment.
It can be a way to tell a story, express an idea, explore identity, create something meaningful, and share their perspective with the world.
Depending on the length of the program, girls may:
Develop story ideas
Create characters
Explore story structure
Practice descriptive writing
Write personal or fictional narratives
Revise and edit their work
Give and receive feedback
Design a title and book concept
Explore publishing basics
Develop an author bio
Present or read their work aloud
Longer cohorts may culminate in a completed book or published writing project that girls can add to their personal portfolios.
The goal is both literacy development and identity development.
Girls are encouraged to see themselves as writers, creators, and people whose stories matter.
Skills Developed:
Literacy, writing, creativity, communication, storytelling, self-expression, perseverance, editing, and presentation skills.
